Arrival in Dar es Salaam
Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in the city center. Enjoy a safari briefing and dinner as you prepare for your journey into the wild south.
Night 1 Accommodation
Hyatt Regency / Serena Hotel Dar es Salaam
Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park (Selous)
After an early breakfast, we transfer to the airport for a short flight or begin the drive to Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve). Upon arrival, check into your lodge and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a boat safari along the Rufiji River, witnessing hippos, crocodiles, and an incredible array of water birds.
Night 2 Accommodation
Selous Serena / Rufiji River Camp
Full Day Safari in Nyerere
Enjoy a full day of game viewing in Africa's largest protected area. Nyerere is famous for its thriving populations of African wild dogs, lions, and massive herds of buffalo and elephants. Your guide will navigate the diverse landscapes, from palm-fringed lakes to open savannahs, in search of predators and rare species.
Walking Safari & Transfer to Ruaha
Begin the day with an exhilarating guided walking safari. Accompanied by an armed ranger, discover the smaller details of the bush—tracks, plants, and insects—that are often missed from a vehicle. After lunch, we transfer via bush flight or drive toward the rugged landscapes of Ruaha National Park.
Night 4 Accommodation
Ruaha River Lodge / Jabali Ridge
Ruaha National Park: The Great River
Ruaha is known for its massive elephant herds and large prides of lions. Spend the day exploring the park's dramatic terrain, marked by the Ruaha River which acts as a lifeline for the region's wildlife. Look out for the rare Greater and Lesser Kudu, as well as sable and roan antelopes.
Exploring Ruaha's Remote Wilderness
Deeper into the park, the wilderness becomes even more pristine. Today we focus on tracking predators and exploring the lesser-known sections of Ruaha. With fewer vehicles in the area, you'll enjoy exclusive sightings and the profound silence of the African night.
Ruaha to Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, we begin our drive to Mikumi National Park. While smaller than Ruaha, Mikumi is often compared to the Serengeti for its open plains and abundant wildlife. Arrive in time for an afternoon game drive to see zebras, wildebeests, and the iconic giraffes of the Mkata Floodplain.
Night 7 Accommodation
Vuma Hills Tented Camp / Stanley's Kopje
Mikumi to Dar es Salaam (Departure)
Enjoy a final morning game drive as the sun rises over Mikumi. After a hearty bush breakfast, we begin the journey back to Dar es Salaam. We'll arrive in the city by late afternoon, transferring you directly to the airport for your departure flight or your hotel, marking the end of your Southern Circuit adventure.
