with Wildboar Safaris
From your very first message to your last game drive, we handle every detail with care and expertise. Here's how we turn your safari dream into an extraordinary reality — seamlessly and stress-free.
Best Time to Visit Tanzania
for a Safari
Tanzania is a year-round safari destination, but timing can make the difference between a good trip and a truly extraordinary one. The dry season from June to October is considered prime safari time — vegetation thins out, animals gather around water sources, and the famous Great Wildebeest Migration reaches its dramatic peak in the Serengeti and Masai Mara. However, even the green season has its magic, with fewer crowds, lush landscapes, and newborn wildlife filling the plains.
-
Peak Season
June – October
The dry season — vegetation thins, animals flock to water sources, and the Great Migration river crossings are at their most dramatic. Clear skies and superb game-viewing every day. Book early.
-
Great Time
January – February
Calving season in the southern Serengeti — thousands of wildebeest calves are born, drawing lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. Some of the most intense predator action of the year.
-
Green Season
November – December
Short rains bring lush, emerald landscapes and migratory birds in full plumage. Fewer tourists, lower rates, and a wonderfully intimate safari atmosphere — a hidden gem.
-
Quieter Period
March – May
Long rains fall across Tanzania. Parks are almost empty and rates are at their lowest — ideal for experienced travellers seeking solitude and a raw, unspoiled wilderness.
Wildboar Safaris tip: Wherever you travel in Tanzania, our expert guides know exactly where the wildlife is no matter the month. We tailor every itinerary around peak animal activity so you never miss a moment — rain or shine.

Tanzania Safari
FAQs
Everything you need to know before booking your Tanzania safari with Wildboar Safaris.
Do I need a visa to visit Tanzania?
Most nationalities require a visa to enter Tanzania. You can obtain a tourist visa on arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro International Airport, or apply online in advance via the Tanzanian immigration e-visa portal. We recommend applying online to save time. Citizens of some East African countries enjoy visa-free entry. Our team can advise you based on your specific nationality.
What vaccinations do I need for Tanzania?
Yellow Fever vaccination is required if you are arriving from a country where yellow fever is endemic. We strongly recommend vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and Tetanus. Anti-malarial medication is essential for all visitors. Always consult your doctor or a travel health clinic at least 6–8 weeks before your trip to ensure you have the most up-to-date advice for your specific itinerary.
What is the best time of year for a Tanzania safari?
Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the best time depends on what you want to see. The dry season from June to October offers the most reliable wildlife viewing and is peak season for the Great Migration river crossings in the northern Serengeti. January to February is excellent for calving season in the southern Serengeti. The green season (November–December and March–May) offers lush scenery, fewer crowds, and lower prices.
How long should my Tanzania safari be?
We recommend a minimum of 7 nights to do Tanzania justice, allowing time to visit at least two or three parks such as the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire. A 10–14 day safari allows for a more relaxed pace and the opportunity to explore additional regions such as the southern circuit or combine a safari with a Zanzibar beach extension. Our experts can design an itinerary to suit any schedule and budget.
Is Tanzania safe for tourists?
Tanzania is widely regarded as one of Africa's safest and most stable safari destinations. The country has a long history of welcoming international tourists. As with any travel destination, normal precautions apply — keep valuables secure and follow your guide's advice in the parks. Wildboar Safaris ensures all transport, accommodation, and guides are thoroughly vetted for your peace of mind throughout the entire journey.
What should I pack for a Tanzania safari?
Pack lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, beige) — avoid bright colours and camouflage patterns. Essentials include a wide-brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, sturdy walking shoes, a fleece or light jacket for cool mornings, and a quality pair of binoculars. For photography, bring extra memory cards and a dust bag for your camera. Most lodges offer laundry services, so you can pack light even for longer trips.
Can I combine a Tanzania safari with Zanzibar?
Absolutely — and we highly recommend it. The classic "Bush & Beach" combination is one of Africa's most popular trip formats. After the excitement of the safari, Zanzibar's turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, and historic Stone Town offer the perfect wind-down. Short domestic flights connect Arusha or the Serengeti airstrips directly to Zanzibar, making the journey seamless. Wildboar Safaris handles all logistics and connections for you.
Are Tanzania safaris suitable for children?
Many of Tanzania's parks and lodges are very family-friendly, though recommendations vary by age and park regulations. Most camps welcome children aged 5 and above on game drives, while some private conservancies allow younger children. We design dedicated family safari itineraries with child-friendly lodges, shorter drives, and activities tailored to younger travellers. Our guides are experienced at making safari magical for the whole family, from age 6 to 96.
